S -Substitute•Materials: What materials / elements could you substitute in your outcome?•Location: What if you planned to place your outcomesomewhere else?

The taffeta could have been substituted by photography paper for holograms. I imagine it as quite thick, and that could have been applied as pannels also. I was thinking of a flat garment, which would have an impression of volume because of the hologram photographs.

It could have been made as a sheet of metal, so that the hologram photographs (of prints) could be applied on as wallpaper (?)

C -Combine•Ideas: Can you combine this idea with another to create something new?

Yes. I was thinking about a new way of printing. I was exploring the idea of improvisation and inkblot psychological tests. I could create a system that generates "an ink fountain" which stains different layers of the garment creating "improvised prints".

If I was using the idea of a flat garment, there could be a way of attaching different layers of fabric or special paper to it for the ink to bleed on.

•Purposes: Could your work have multiple purposes? (list them)

The idea of the hologram makes me think of camouflage. When we look at holograms we see two pictures, and a sort of in-between. The garment could change appearence, like a chameleon for the wearer to blend into the scenery.

A -Adapt•Small adaptation: What small changes could you make? (list options that you might consider)•Large: What huge adaptation might you make (eg. if you had another 4 weeks?)

Small- I could have experimented adding other types of fabrics to the structure, like the sheer one, layering it.

Big - I could have hand made my own structure in order to get some shapes which were not possible with the crinoline. But I would have had to find a way of making it retractable and also keep the bounce effect it had.

M-Modify•How could you change the shape, look, or feel of your outcome?

The shape could be changed when dancing with the garment, it was already souple. I could have used the two cages in ways that were not a skirt or a cape, could have been used as a hat, or an accessory on the arm, or leg etc.

P -Put to Another Use•What if you changed the audience or function of your piece?

When I was experimenting with the cages at first, I saw that it could be used to cover the body, like a hut, if the wearer was kneeling down. I was mentionning the idea of camouflage earlier, the outcome could have become a sort of isolation bubble or small bunker. It could have been used in the army, or in an apocalyptic scenario, as I was researching at the beginning of the project. Instead of enableing movement, it would also keep the wearer still.

E -Eliminate•What could you take away to simplify the idea?

I don't think there is much I could eliminate. I only used cages and taffeta to make my outcome. Both were necessary.

R -Reverse•Concept: What if you try to do the exact opposite of what you're trying to do now?

- as I mentionned idea of immobility, it is the opposit of the intended outcome of my garment which was supposed to be worn dancing.
